Dear Board Member: You were selected as a voting delegate for the National election. Ballots will be mailed to you from the National office. : The following are excerpts of letters received in the State office. Also a copy of a telegram received from the National office and the reply sent by your president. They are for your information. Mrs. ae We Emery The-many friends and fellow-workers'of Mrs. W.A. Hastings, in her home state of ‘Wisconsin, are deeply disap- pointed that she is not, at this time, the nominee for President of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, Upon inguiry, we in Wisconsin found that Mrs. Hastings was not approached by the nominating committee, or asked to continue her services as an officer of the National ‘Board. Letters have come to her from many members of the National Board asking these same questions. Why isn't she the nominee for the Presidency? Did she find it necessary for personal reasons to refuse to serve? We have obtained permission from Mrs. Hastings to send a letter to you answering these inquiries, We believe her ten years of service on the National Board make Mrs. Hastings the logical choice for the Presidency at this time; she is free to give the necessary time to the work, and has the experience necessary for it. She has served as President of the Wisconsin Congress for 4 years (1933-37), as Vice President from Region IV for 2 years (1937-39), one year’as Chairman of Character Education to fill an unexpired term, and in 1940 was elected as first Vice President, and has now served in this capacity for 3 years. This gives her actual experience in each type of work done by members of the National Board. Also, she lives very near the National office - an advantage in this time of travel difficulty and of unusual demands on the President. We think that many of you may wish to retain both Mrs. Hastings and Mrs. Lytle in places of leadership, and that such was your original intention. With four new officers and many chairmen to be chosen this spring, it should be possible to keep all those with demonstrated leadership ability; the organization needs experienced leaders now. We ask you, and your delegates, if you are a state president, to seriously consider Mrs. Hastings' qualifications for the presidency when marking your ballots.
