September 6, 1944. To Whom It May Concern: t am happy to state that I have kmown Ernest A. Pontius for twenty-five years and have always found him to be a most out~ standing and upright citizen of ow commmity. He is married and has two children, and also has an aged mother who lives with him and who is dependont upon him for support. From the time of Mr. Pontius's young manhood and to present I have known him to take ea part in all cormumity affairs for the civic welfare. He has been a radio announcer for Station WREN for a great muaiber of years, and at the time of his going into service he was advertising manager for tha Lawrence Paily Journal-Norld of thie city. He enjoy: the confidence and friendship of the citizens of this comunity. In all matters cf patriotic endeavor Mr. Pontius has always been found in the foregomd. He ise a substantial citizen, a splendid parent, and a fine gentleman, At his age I am very sure ~ that if the service should ses fit to release him for home duty, he would 111 a very important place in the life of this conmumity. It gives me great pleasure to write this letter testifying as to Mr. Pontius's character, worth and stability. Very sincerely yours, 7 Director of Fhysioal Hducation, PCA: AH Varsity Basketball Coach.
