RED CROSS PERFORMANCE
UNDER ITS CHARTER OBLIGATIONS

HE Congress of the United States, in incorporating

the Red Cross, imposed certain duties. How the
Red Cross organization carries them out is told in this
booklet, largely in terms of what was done during the
twelve months just preceding the 1944 War Fund. Be-
cause of printing time requirements, figures covering
the final months are estimated and so round numbers
are employed.

As the number of sick, wounded, and disabled men
increases, Red Cross services to the armed forces in-
crease in intensity. Demobilization and discharge for
disability in their turn bring difficult problems of ad-
justment with which the Red Cross must help the
soldier and the veteran—and their families for many
years to come.
