ye Ros Mareh 20, 1944. Mr. Byron T. Shutz, Campaign Chairman, Red Cross Headquarters, Kansas City, Mo. Dear Mr. Shutz: I am writing you regarding the Hercules and the Ordnance Company contribution at DeSoto. The Kansas City, Missouri, contribution of Hercules, according to Mr. J. Me Ferren, is $489.00, There is a $10. contribution from Jackson County, Tne ยป Missouri, which makes a total of $499.00. There is a small amount from the Ordmance group. The amount is undetermined. Miss Eleanor Cavert, secretary to Captain Waterhouse, has this amount in her possession and will turn it over to you upon re- quest. Soon after our drive started March lst I talked with Miss Cavert and she stated that she would contact these construction people, Lozier, Broderick and Gordon, and the Area Engineers. I asked that she . call me back, which she stated that she would de. Apparently failing to get me at my office here at the University, she called the Red Cross office at the Community Building telling them that the construction - people, L.B. and G., did not want a solicitation mde. She stated the same situation was true for the Area Engineers. The Red Cross office called Mr. Wade Pierse, the president of the Douglas County chapter. Doubtless Mre Pierce did not get the idea that this information was to be directed to me, and I never heard from Miss Cavert directly or indirectly. Had I received this message from Miss Cavert I would have immediately taken steps to contact these tw organizations at DeSoto who apparently did not want to be bothered. I expect to have a conference with Mr. Dolph Simons, who is in Ottawa today. Mr. Simons and Mr. Pierce and I will have a meeting as to what steps to take in regard to giving everybody in those organizations an opportunity to contribute to their respective counties in which they reside. Mr. Je Me Ferren did a woncerful job in ciroularizing the Here les Company and he has full information for you regarding your share if you care to contact him. Sincerely yours, FCA: AH Chairman, Douglas County WarFund Drive,
