February 11, 1943. Dear Fellow Faculty Members: After four vears of splendid service by eboss6r E. C. Buehler who has conducted the Red Cross campaigns on the hill, Chairman Shipman Winter has asked me to head up the campaign on Mt. Oread this year. The first week of March, 1943, is the time set by the American Red Cross for their membership and war fund drive. The quota for Douglas County in the last war fund drive in December, 1941, was $7 ยป 000. This year the quota which must be raised is $17,150, an increase of over ten thousand dollars. Organizations as well as individuals are being called upon to give more than ever before. On account of the exigencies of the times and the press of business I have not taken the time to call you over the phone to ask you to assist in this most worthy enterprise. I know that you will do your share, and am writing this letter to the entire group asking you to head up the work in your particuler building or organization. Where two individuals are nemed for the same building we kindly ask that you make your own arrangements for such work as is necessary. We are planning to write a circular letter to every faculty etl member and we hope to conduct a mail campaign so far as possible. However, on account of the greatly increased amount of the quota over the last cam- paign, it may be necessary to do some individual work. We have appointed the Fo] lowing @SSLaY tH Pts Committee to do some advance soliciting: Dean Paul B. Lawson, Dean D. M. Swarthout, Dean J. J. Jakosky, H. G. Inghan, C. F. Nelson, Sgt. Wim. Kollender. We have also asked the presidents of the Men's Stucent Council, W.S.G.A., Pan-Hellenic Councils, as well as the Jay Jenes and the Ku Ku's, to assist with the student drive. I will appreciate your cooperation in this very worthy cause. Sincerely yours,
