The Division of Recreation is the agency of the Federal Government responsible for help- ing communities to organize, develop and maintain adequate recreation programs for military personnel, war workers and their families, and young people. Through its 70 field representatives, the Division offers expert advice on organization, the develop- - ment of programs, the best use of facilities and funds, and the employment and training of leaders. Where local resources cannot be stretched to cover war needs, Federal funds are also available. However, it is the con- tinuing aim of the Recreation Division to help communities solve their own problems in the best tradition of local self-government and local initiative.
