1020 S.W. 23rdAve/ Miami 35 Florida Dear Docs You are no doubt surprised to hear from me so soon but I have a very special reason in writing. Some time ago I mentioned that I might apply for a commission in the Navy and now that time has arrived. Our names were suggested to the Personnel Officer by our Athletic Officer. There are four of us. My application after the necessary documents are accumulated will be given to the personnel officer who in turn will present them to the Commanding Officer. The Commanding Officer will weigh the information he has and then forward it to the Bureau of Personnel in Washington if he sees fit. From all the dope I can get all four of us have a good chance of coming out in good shape. I would certainly appreciate it to no ends if you would write a letter of reccommendation for me stressing my ability to handle men and that I served as freshman football and basketball coach at the University of Kansas. I think that this will mean a lot as the Commanding Officer is athletically inclined. Any good word that you can state in my behalf will do a lot of good. The letter should be written to the Commanding Officer, United States Naval Air Station, Richmond, Florida but be sure and mail it to me at the above address because it will have to go to the personnel officer first. Whatever the outcome is I will be sure and let you know the results. Will you do this for me at your earliest convenience? Day before yesterday I ran into George Clucas who was a broad jumper at K.U. He is a teacher and an ensign in the Coast Guard. He is an inst:ructor in the Subchaser Training Center in Miami. George Stapleton thinks he is going to be transferred to Ammarillo, Texas or Lincoln, Nebraska. Will close hoping to hear from you very soon. jee: ad Lagi i red Harris
