Mr. Harley Davis, Kansas City Power and Light Co., Kansas City, Missouri. Dear "Mud": : I em sending you a carbon copy of a letter that I have written to Mayor Roger Sermon in regard to Vaughn “Chick” Pontius. "Chick" is our greenekeeper here at the Lawrence Country Club. He is 28 years of age and graduated from the Lawrence Memorial High School seven years ago. He has been manager and greenskeeper here for several years, but he desires to get into some other wrk. — 7 i wonder if you will give Rog a ring and see if he won't kindly confer with this boy and recommend him. Chick is married and has been for seven or eight years. He has a fine wife, and I would like to do something to help him out.. I will appreciate anything that you can do with Rog because I realize that it takes a recommendation from some- one in that part of the country to have him considered by the Lake City organization. | IT would like to tell you something about Wilson Houts. We got in touch with the Aleoholics, Anonymous, in Kansas City and they are working with Wilson. They never reveal their identity by a letter, but en A. A. called us and told us that they were working with him. This chap did reveal his identity to us and it happened to be a Lewr- ence boy who had gone bad and had straightened up. It is amazing to see the work that they do for their fellow unfortunates, so I have hopes that something can be done for Wilson, | I had Wilson working here for us until about two weeks ago when he went to Kansas City to live with his wife. ‘The weather got too cold for him to stand the outdoor work, but I believe that the | days he spent here rather toughened him up and revitalized him so that he could do work that the A. A. will provide for him. I want to thank you very much for your kindness in all the things that you have done. : : Wishing you a very prosperous and happy New Year, I am Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, FCA:AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
