I have applied for a commission in the United
States Navy in the Recreation Section of the “oral Department. If
selected I will get a commission as Lieut.%enior “Vrade and will
also be granted a leave of absence from Dickinson Vollege for the
duration of the war.

I have had an interview with the Navy Officials
and have also passed my Physical examination.

The next order from the Navy Department is to
furnish them with a few recommendations from men who know mec best
for a number of years. This recommendation must be written in
triplicate and mailed direct to me. Ihe reason for mailing to me
is that am required to gather all the recommendations together with
other required data and then mail to them, Therefore,since you have
known me the past 22 years as a Football,Basketball,and Track athlete
while at Southwestern Yollege and as a Coach,+ feel that a recomm-
endation from you will-do me a lot of good.I will appreciate you mailing
this to me just as soon as possible.

The recommendation should be information as to
my MORAL,MENTAL, amd PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS.
