I have volunteered for service in the U.S. Naval Reserve under
Tom Hamilton and if I have any luck will be commissioned a Lieuten-
ant in the Physical Training Division. I need several good letters
of recommendation, so am taking advantage of your kindness and am
returning a copy of your old letter to be addressed, signed and
returned to me immediately. |

Finished a rather unsuccessful season in basketball winning 5
and losing 7, but won our objective games against. Williams and Wes-
leyan. We worked well as a unit but lacked in height which always
proved our downfall. We only average 5'83" with one boy 6' but
weighing only 167 lbs. I had a swell bunch of kids who battled
like demons constantly. At the end of the season they gave me a
banquet and presented me with a trophy.

The doors of my home are always open to you, Doc, for l will
always remember our pleasant times at Springfield.

In those years he was completing his work on his Master's Degree
in Physical Educations

the bill thoroughly as a mm's man, as a gentleman, as a well trained
Physical Education leader and as a’ manwho has faced the real test

space did not forbid I could tell you of some wonderful qualities
he has that the more than average fellow in no way possesses. He
is clean, courageous, and capable. He has dealt with men long
