Stout Superintendent of Schools Topeka Public Schools 415 West Eighth Street Topeka, Kanses : Dear Superintendent Stouts I have been asked by Maurice Cannady to write you concerning his — qualifications for a possible position in physical education in your Topeka school system, I have known Maurice Cannady ever since he was a freshmen at the University of Kansas, and have found him at all times a high-grade zentleman, Capable teacher, and a very safe ani valuable young mn to deal with young people, Meurice Camady attended the Indepentence, Kansas high school and Junior College, He won two letters in sports there and at Kensas he won letters in both football and track, He was a fine athlete and he trained for the contests in a most exemplary manner, He completed his work for a B.S, Degree in Education from the University of Kansas during the summer of 19233, Wis experience in school activities as I know them is as follows: President of Sigma Chi; President of Sasnak, which is a physical education club in the School of Education; and Vice-President of the K-Club, which is the lettermen's organization, ! In September, 1938 he accepted a position with the Lawrence Public Schools and assisted Coach Elmer Schaake in football for two years, Last year _ he had charge of the Colored High School Basketball Team, losing but one game out of eleven contests, His record won for him the championship, At present he is coach of the Junior High School Basketball Team, and his boys are making an enviable record, Lest sumer he ws Assistant Director of the Lawrence Play~ ground, At present he is working on his Master's Degree at the University of _ Southern California, which is half comleted, Last summer when I was at the Kanses State High School Coaching School in Topeka along with Fritz Crisler of Michigan, I met Principel Van Slyck and told him that we hed two young people of great promise; one a man and the other a young woman, who were doing exceptional work, I told him they were Meurice Cannady and D.J. Wileuts, At that time I gave Mr, Van Slyck my appreisal of Maurice Cannady, I think Mr, Cannady is a fine influence with young men end does a highly commendable job with them,.
