Dear Suverintendent Stout:

I heave been asked by Maurice Cannady to write you concerning
his cuelificetions for a possible position in physical education in
your Topeke school system.

I heve knorn Meurice Cennedy ever since he was o- freshmen
et the University of Kenses, end have found him et all times » high-
grede gentleren, cevable tescher, and a very sefe and velueble
young man to deel rith young people.

Maurice Cannady attended the Independence, Kansas high
school end Junior Colleges He won tro letters in sports there aré
et Kenses he fon letters in both footbell end treek. We res a fine
athlete end he treined for the contests in a rost exermplery rannere
Te completed his work fore Bs Se Degree in Education from the
University of Kenses during the summer of 1958,

His experience in school sctivities as I know thém is as
follows: President of Sigma Chi; President of Sasnak, rhich is a
physical educetion club in the School of Education; end Vice-Pres-
ident of the K-Club, which is the letterren's orgenizetione

In geptember, 1958 he sccepted a position with the
Learrence Public Schools and essigted Cosch Elmer Scheaake in football
for two yerrs. Last yeer he hed charge of the Colored igh School
Besketbell Team, losing but one gare out of eleven contests. His
recora ron for him the chernionshinv. At present he is coech of the
Junior Figh School Basketbell Team, and his boys are making an
envieble record. Lest summer he ves Assistant Director of the Lawrence
Pleyground. At present he is working. on his Mester's degree et the
Iniversity of Southern Celifornis, which is half corpleted.

Last surmer when I was at the Kenses State High School
Coaching School in Topeka slong with Fritz Crisler of Michigan, I
met Principal Ven Slyck and told him thet we hed tro young peonle
of greet promise; one 9 man and the other a young woren, who were
doing exceptional rork. I told him they were Maurice Cannady and
Ded. Wilcuts. At thet time I geve Mre Ven Slyck my appraisal of
Veurice Cannedys.
