The Lawrence Memorial High School "Lions" football champions roared to a decisive triumph over the Olathe "Eagles" last Friday night, November 12, before a huge and enthusiastic crowd of nearly 5,000 football fans. The game was played in the Haskell Stadium and Lawrence triumphed by a score of 35 to 6. By winning this game Coach Chalmer Woodard's finely coached team left no doubt in the minds of any of the spectators but what this year's Lawrence High School edition was one of the finest ever to represent the Red and Black. ) The local high school team finished the season with a perfect Northeast Kansas Conference ieee record. Old time Lawrence High School friends and critics who watched this scintillating gridiron team in action rate this young, aggressive, versatile and colorful tean as tops. Forward passes, laterals, spinners, quick kicks and long accurate passes were peters ee mized with such nicety that the audience at tines was spellbound. Great credit should go to Coach Chalmer Woodard for coaching such an ouisbendien team in his first year at Lawrence High. The "Lions" lion share so far as the rere are concerned should go to Cliff McDonald, the versatile, elusive and most exceptional leader. Always possessing an excellent poise and a fine personality, mixed with outstanding sportsmanship, NeDonald proved to be an ideal leader. The officials who worked the several games that Lawrence High School played state in unison that the high school boys are, as a group, a fine testimonial to the present day athletic training that the better high school coaches see fit to stress sportsmanship, versatile play, mixed with a hard, rugged gridiron tactics. me
