August 13, 1945 A. G. Reynolds, ASV12USNR U. S. Naval Hospital Staff Memphis, Tennessee Dear Gordyt ~ I, of course, was terribly disappointed, as was Coach Shenk, to learn that you would not be returned to the University of Kansas. I assure you nothing would have pleased me more than to have seen you graced our campus at least another year. I assure you that — we enjoyed having you to the fullest, und I trust, when this thing is over, that when you make your choice of alma mters it will be the University of Kensas. I would like to see you play with a real group of Varsity basketeers. We will have a great bunch of splendid men re- turning when the war is over and I would derive great pleasure in see- ing you operate with that high-powered aggregation. We will have e Charlie Black, Ray Evans, and Otto Schnellbacher for sure. With that group of boys you just couldn't miss, so Gordy count on it. Write me and tell me that's a peer ene and I will be a happy coaches a Don't worry about at ttle I was able to do for you. I am tremendously pleased with your fine competitive attitude. It's such fellows as you that I love to work with. You're a real competitor and you hate to get licked, so come on back, Gordy, and we will take it out on the boys who made it ‘tough for us in a few instances. Certainly, with you gone and only the Smaller of the boys, an atature, returning you can see that we will not ue very — as it. looks now. | We were delighted to know your mother. She is a sel: eernee Her wonderful character is reflected in your fine attitude. Write me occasionally, Gordy. I am always happy to hear from you. With all good wishes, I am Sincerely yours, | -_ Porrest C. Allen Director, Physical Education ; Varsity Basketball Coach -FCAref
