DON SPENCER & lO0l PARK AVENUE NEW YORK, N. Y. CAledonia 5.7554 November 18, 1939 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I note that you have scheduled a basketball game in Chicago for early in January, and wonder whether it would be possible for you to extend your trip somewhat to participate in two games, one at Baltimore and the other at White Plains, This year, we are working together with the University of Baltimore and the Westchester County Center in scheduling a series of twelve basketball double-headers, Among the leading collegiate teams already scheduled to take part in these games are Oregon, Tulane, Oklahoma A. & M., Dartmouth, California, Stanford, Clemson, Michigan State, Yale, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Michigan, etc. We had in mind your playing the University of Baltimore on January 6 and the University of North Carolina on November 11. Both games should be very good attractions. If the January 6 date is not available, we would like to book you for January 13 in Baltimore. The Baltimore Coliseum has a seating capacity of 5500, a regulation size court with a specially treated floor surface, and the newest type of glass backboards. It is centrally located, and easily reached from any part of the city. Basketball in Baltimore has always been successful in the past, with almost 6000 people jamming in to see the Ohio State - Baltimore game. This year, with the introduction of double-headers, a capacity crowd for all games seems assured, The Westchester County Center, located in White Plains, just outside of New York, draws spectators from all the commuting towns. For the past two years, single attractions in White Plains have averaged 4700 in attendance, and this year, scheduling double-headers Should mean sell-outs at each game. The White Plains auditorium will accommodate almost 6000 fans. We can offer you a minimum guarantee of $800.00, with a privilege of 15% of the gross receipts after the deduction of State and Federal taxes, if you can play two games for us. The average
