Arkansas City, Kans. November 3, 1937 Dr. F. C. Allen, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allens: Bruce Reid, my son, was home over the past week end and I am no little disturbed over the situation that exists in his history class. There seems to be some friction between Bruce and his teacher and Bruce is not getting the grades, which he thinks he deserves. I am not condoning Bruce because I realize there are always two sides, but the fact remains that he is not doing as well as he should. He claims he is studying now and really trying and I know that Bruce has always been a good student in that subject - all the way through his grade and high school years, he ‘made good grades in history, it was one of his favorite subjects and so naturally, I am wondering why he should now almost be on the verge of failing in it. You know what it means to Bruce to play basket ball-- he has to partly work his way through college else it would not be possible for him to go, and I am wondering it if would be possible for you to have him changed from one history class to another. There apparently is not the proper cooperation between teacher and pupil and I feel sure that Bruce will not be able to do much good under existing conditions. It isn't fair to him or to his instructor either and so anything you might be able to do would be highly appreciated. If you can find the time, I would appreciate your investigating the matter and writing me at your convenience. Thanking you and with every good wish, I am Sincerely yours, .
