Arkansas City, Kans. November 18, 1937. Dr. F. C.Allen, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: 1 have your letter of November 16th and regret very much indeed to hear that Bruce is smoking and I am somewhat surprised at this because he never did smoke excessively and when he was home last time, I didn't see him smoking at all and he was home much of the time. Of course, I understand your position and realize that it is necess- ary that you take a firm stand in the training of your athletes and I appreciate the personal interest that you are taking in Bruce. Bruce, I know, realizes the importance of following training rules and I am surprised and disappointed that he has seen fit to break any of them. 1 am writing him a letter tonight and he will be home next week for a couple days and 1 am sure 1 can convince him that he is not only being unfair to you and unsportsmanlike, but he is hurting himself more, as well, and 1 think he will see where he has been in error and we will have nothing to worry about. Thank you for your letter and 1 will be glad to hear from you any time. Bruce tells me he feels he is doing much better in his studies. With every good wish, 1 am Sincerely yours, a : | 307 Ka far.
