Arkansas City, Kans. December 8, 1937 Dr. F. C. Allen, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allens I know these are very busy days for you and I do not want to bother you too much but I have not heard from Bruce since his return to school and I have noticed from the papers that he has not been playing at all in any of the games, although it seems that a good many of your boys have. I know Bruce is not ill or I would have heard and I am afraid he is just blue and discouraged and I thought possibly you could help me work the thing out for him. I have just recently learned that he is having difficulty with his German and I presume this is the reason he has not played because he told me he would not smoke any more and | am sure that he hasn't, and so I am wonder- ing if there isn't some way to help him bring his grades up by outside tutoring - I don't have any idea what the cost would be but I am sure I could make arrangements to pay for some special work, if it would, in your opinion, be the thing to do. I will greatly appreciate any suggestions you may care to offer -— I don't want to be a nuisance to you and if you do not have the time, please do not hesitate to tell me and I will understand and feel all right about it. Thanking you for the interest and consideration that you have shown Bruce and with every good wish, I am ‘ Yours very truly,
