Now, talking shop just a little--the Eastern boys of course favor higher backboards because of the highly promotive element of the game that they indulge in. They are thinking about those extra seats behind the back- beard that they can sell for more if they can see through iteedon't worry, the rules committee will never sanction a back stop, and the fan-shaped backboard will stay. I have a letter from Val Lentz of Westpoint and I told him frankly that a group of the Eastern coaches were going to cause a rift between the rules committee at the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Nels Norgren, head coach at the University of Chicagp, and president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches appointed me as chairman of the rules committee for the coaches association, but I refused the honor, if it is such, »becaus¢ the person in control of the coaches association is going to get in dutch in my opinion by allowing the Yiddishers to run the show. . I wish that I might write you a longer letter, but my time is — gone, so please give the Allen's love to your lovely wife and your fine mother. And by the way--your fraternity brother, Howard Engleman is now with Phillip's Petroleum Co. at Bartles- ville, Okla. He made a fine record in academics and athletics and was elected president of the senior class in the School of Business. We are very proud of chaps such as he. With kindest regards and best wishes I am Sincerely, Director of Physical Education and Recreation FcA/pg Varsity Basketball Coach
