November 21, 1941. Mr. Jemes N. Snyder, Captain, CAC, Fert Leavenworth, Kansas. Dear Captain Snyder: I have your favor of the 17th instant, and regret exceedingly that the “F" grade in physical education showed up on your transcript. During the time that you were in the University we hed a rule that all students in the College were automatically enrolled in physical education. If the student did not show up for class he was automatically given a flunk grade. I think it was an abominable ruling, but that is the way it was handled at that time. R.0.T.C. work was given credit, or rather served as a substitute for physical educa- tion. The error in your case is not the first one, and since the damage is done I do not see how we can erase that from your transcript. Would it help you any for me to give you a letter, taking the blame for the error in our department and stating that the “F" should not be on your transcript? If this is satisfactory to you I will be very glad to write to your commanding general or any officer that you may wish, making a full explanation. If this is not entirely pleasing to you I will be glad to take it up with our dean and see if some action cannot be taken which will have this withdrawn from your transcript. Won't you please let me hear from you? I assure you that I will do everything within my power to cooperate with you in giving you the just grade which you earned in R.O.T.C. and not have this unfortunate accident charged against your fine record. With all good wishes, I gm Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, PCA:AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
