BURLINGTON, Vt., Dec. 13— Fordham’s speedy basketball tos- sers ran away from the University of Vermont tonight by the score of 44 to 24. Vermont started with the zone defense, which bothered the visitors for two or three minutes, during which Vermont took a 54 lead as Captain Corley starred. Then Cap-| i tain Fitzgerald of Fordham started popping iong shots from out beyond the zone defense and his’ team- mates, Savage and Bobich followed his example, running the score up to 28 to 8 at the end of the first- half. Vermont. shifted to the man-to- man defense at the opening of the second half and the play speeded up. Fitzgerald left the game after running his individual points up to 10, giving other members of the Rams’ squad an opportunity to play. Coach Kelleher substituted freely toward the close of the game and the Fordham team cvhich finished was entirely different from that which opened the game. For Vermont, Corley was the high scorer and the sparkplug of the team, with Healy and Beauchemin also shining.
