Defeat overtook the Fordham
basketball team in its first home
engagement. last night as a court-
wise and scrappy Brooklyn College
outfit battled its way to a 38-34
victory before 1,500 persons at
Rose Hill. It was only a mild sort
of upset, for this Brooklyn squad
took the measure of the metropol-
itan A. A. U. champion Ohrbachs
only a week ago.

The Kingsmen’s accuracy on free
throws decided the game. Whereas
Brooklyn succeeded with fourteen
out of nineteen, the Rams made
only six of thirteen.

Artie Musicant’s unbeaten Kings-
men, recovering from a streak of
early wildness, also wasted fewer
field-goal opportunities than Ed
Kelleher’s Rams. With three sopho-
mores in the Maroon line-up, the
losers not only fouled themselves
out of the ball game, but often lost
the ball by faulty passing.

Brooklyn, in command virtually
throughout the second half, except
for a brief moment in the closing
stages, baffled the Rams with a
sliding man-to-man defense and a
quick-breaking offense. Captain
Jules Kasner, tallying 12 points,
led the Brooklyn scorers, as well as
performing brilliantly on defense
with Hank Mariaschin.
