Allen, Basketball Coach University of Kansas : Lawrence, Kansas Dear Mr. Allen: The University of San Francisco is planning an invitational intercollegiate basketball tournament during the period of December 29, 1941 to January 3, 1942, inclusive. (No game would be played on January 1, 1942.) In order to complete a preliminary survey as to the availability of certain institutions, would you please ‘indicate your interest by use of the enclosed airmail stamped envelope. The playoff of the tournament would be conducted in such a manner to permit each of the eight teams a minimum of two games. Hotel and food cost would be paid for fourteen persons of each institution from the evening of Sunday, December 28, until the evening following the elimination of the team. Traveling expense allowance will be guaranteed, as well as further financial consideration to be apportioned among the competing teams from the net profits. The tournament will add to the progress of basketball and afford a grand early season opportunity for the conditioning of your squad.
