Loyola of the South DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS 6330 FRERET STREET NEW ORLEANS, LA. PHONE WAinut 0800 April 5, 1938 Do. Forrest C. Allen, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Doce: I should like very much to schedule a basketball game with you, but it will be impossible to do so for several reasons: Qur team at the present time is nothing to write home about; our gymnasium is &@ very poor one; and basketball doesn't draw with us enough to war- rant a financial obligation necessary to have you appear in New Orleans, | is not much better than we are, but they have a wonderful gymnasium, and it isn't out of the question to think of them as potential Sugar Bowl representatives. It would help the gate if they were chosen to represent the South in the Sugar Bowl game, but I doubt if they would be considered good enough. They did beat Kentucky in the SouthHastern Conference Tournament &@ month or so ego. That was a fluke, however, for they were very much the underdogs. I know Mr , the Chairman of the Basket- ball Committee, which promotes the game. If you so desire, I shall be glad to feel him out as to the prospects of Tulene being the choice “\ihee year. I know Kansas is well know «s far as basketball is concerned down here, and I believe the Committee would be favorable to any sug- gestion regarding the appearance of your team here. But, as you said in your letter, you would have to play a local tean. When you see Ad and Mike, tell them I said hello. Also give my regards to your wife. And don't forget Mary*and the kids, as well as myself, would enjoy 2 visit by you, if you ever have an occasion to be in New Orleans. As ever, Larry "Moon" Muliins Athletic Director LM; PC .
