Dear Phog:

Right after the California-Stanford Game I went
East for a couple of weeks and on my return had to work
twice as hard as expected on preparations for the Rose
Bowl in order to overcome the effects of flu which swept
through the entire squad. Hence, this note has been
long delayed in acknowledgment of your nice letter of
November 29. Thank you for it.

I don't believe I ever worked so hard in my life as
this past season, but now that it is over it is pleasant
to look back and realize the effort may have had some-
thing to do with our success.
