Galena, Kansas June 17, 1940 Dr. F.C. Alien University of Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I have been searching diligently for a job for some two months. Evidently I have been looking in the wrong place. I don't like to impose upon you, for I know you must have quite a task on your hands serving as an employment bureau for your coaches who are graduated, but I remembered that you mentioned last winter you might be able to give me a little help here and there toward finding something to do. All I want is a chance to step in with some paper or press association and show them what I can do. I would certainly appreciate it if, with- out too much trouble, you could ask such good friends as C.E. McBride or Spike Claassen to consider me for the first opening they have. And of course there are any number of other sports editors whom:you know very well that might possibly have an opening one of these days. I should like to work with Jack Copeland on the Beacon or Pete Lightner on the Ragle, if you could help me out down Wichita way. There isn't a whole lot I can do to repay you for such a favor as this, Dr. Allen, but I'tll promise you that if you can get me the opportunity, Itll prove to the boys who know that you are as good a judge of sports writing talent as you are of basketball talent. Hope the summer recreation program is going along fine on Mt. Oread. 5S ai Simon P.S. I can be reached at Galena at any time if something turns up.
