You may find the article a bit too long, and if so I would suggest that you cut out the last two paragraphs. ef ..I tried to make it as concise as possible and yet include everything of importance, I hope you have another good basketball season, Inknow of several boys headed your way who will help you, I believe. 5 cl at te Bi BE iN ON ra Very truly yours, Ort — Qu) li CEN ns RL a vasa ae ¢ CHAS. E. STRICKLAND / ( SUITE 2200 BANKERS BUILDING 10S WEST ADAMS STREET CHICAGO Mason City, Iowa August 23, 1937 Dear Phog: I can't tell you how disappointed I was to have missed you. The reason our phone did not answer is because we have been living all summer in a cottage out at Clear Lake. Harold "Muggsey" Evans, told me that your son was at Culver this summer and would enter Kansas University this fall. Harold has been doing a swell job of rushing and tells me that things never looked better for Kansas Alpha. Enclosed you will find a letter which he addressed to you in eare of me in the hopes. that you would stop off in Meson City for a visit with us. In addition to Harold Evans, Jr., we have three or four other fine young collegians working for us here and I want you to know that we will be in position to take care of one or two of the boys Kansas Alpha is rushing so hard next summer. I refer to Bill Hogben and Bill McKinley, the two all star basket ball players out of Kansas City. Both these fine lads visited us here at Mason City and Clear Lake this summer and I believe nothing would please them more than to come up here and work next summer. Be sure to bear this in mind as it might have considerable influence upon their decision to enter Kansas, as well as pledge Phi Psi. Mrs. Lauterbach is here with us. I talked to Gus over the telephone a week or ten days ago and he reparts thet Western Kansas has received some very beneficial rains. I expect to be in Lewrence either during rushing week or shortly thereafter and will, of course, see you at that time. Yours in the bonds, Dr. Forrest CG. Allen Univeristy of Kansas Lawrence, Kensas Dear Doc: @lenn Zile, captain of my basketball team, here, last year, recently talked to me about the ~ possibility of his coming to K. Ue this year, if he could find some work. Zile is about six feet two inches, and weighs one hundred and seventy pounds. He pleyed guard end center for m, and was a strong defensive mane He also played football, an ende I think he plans to have about two hundred dollars saved by the time school starts, and other than thet he will have to work his way. Heis an experienced meat culter. I am vlanningto be «t the coaching school in Topeka the week of the 23d, and he is plenning to drive down some dey that week end have me come over to Lawrence to look things over.liebd like to see you then if you're there. Dear Phog: I don't know whether you will be able to send me two compli- mentary tickets to the football game this year or not. If you can I would like to have five reserved; that is, I'll pay for three and take the two that you give me. If you can't follow the practice that has been followed in the past I'll take four and pay for them. You may be sure that whatever your practice is will be satisfactory to me. Your treatment in the past has been so awfully fine that nothing you could do would lessen my high regard for you and my enthusiasm for the team. I bought a membership in the University Relays Club from Will J. Miller the other daye I understood from Mr. Miller that this would entitle me to two tickets to some one of the foot- ball games. If that is true, I believe I will take two tickets to the Kansas State College game. If this can be worked out I am going to try to get Marion and Willard Mayberry to come up and see that game and spend the week end with us.
