He is a rugged, iron- man performer. A good scorer, Bliss is an excellent rebound man and a smooth, all-around player. He is also a varsity letter winner in hap aces and a member of the tennis Squad. He'll be holding down a reeulcr end position next fall. BOB MENZE, guard. Though standing only 5-foot-7 and weighing but 130 pounds, Menze is a great running mate of Bliss. These two should be just about the best pair of guards in the conference. Menze played regularly as a sophomore last season, alternating at forward and suarde He is a fine shot, one of the clovcerest dribblers Iowa State has ever had and a remarkable defensive player considering his size. CHUCK HEILEMAN, guard. A regular in 1937, Heileman, 200- pound senior, was not out for basketball last season. An all-Big Six end in football, Heileman is a rugged court performer. One of the strongest defonsive men on the squad. DON BERESFORD, forward. Another junior who won his spurs last season. Beresford is the best shootcr on theo’squad. He is tall and slim, built along the same lines as Jack Cowen, sharp+shooting forward of the 1935 Big Six championship team. Beresford, along with Bliss, Menze, Allan and Ryan, was a member of the state high school championship team from Amcs in 19356, WENDELL ALLAN, forward. This junior letterman will not be cligible for play until winter quarter. He is a good floor man, strong on defonse and a fighter all the way. HILARY RYAN, benter. Another junior letterman, not in school this fall quarter. Was the Cycloncs' regular center last scason. Handicapped by his lack of height, Ryan gavo ¢very opponent a bad evening. 1938 RESERVES AND FIRST YEAR MEN DICK GEISE, ‘ecnter. A junior who played but a few minutecs last yoear. He is tall, slim and a good shot, ED JONES, center.’ Has been the first team centcr this fall. A 6-foot-3 sophomore, smart, expericneed basketball player. A good scorer, an excellent floor man, and a great rebound artist. May be shifted to forward for the Big Six campaign. GORDON NICHOLAS, centcr. Largest man on the squad, 6-foot-3, also a sophomore. Transfcrred from Purdue last January, so won't be eligible until Jan. 1, 1939, when he completes his year's residenge requirement. Shows great potentialities. (more)
