You are welcome to use any part of it you see fit: Born in Nokomis, Illinois, and as a lad came to Kansas with my parents where we settled on a farm in Morris County. Commencing in my 'teens, taught school six terms in Morris County, the last two terms being as principal of the Council Grove high-school. Took my college work in Teachers! College, Hagories and Baker University. Ing aged in the newspaper business in 1898 and subi aaa e Council Grove Guard for twenty-three years. Changed. this weekly to a small country daily in 1914. Served in the lower house of the Kansas Legislature in 1909 under Governor Stubbs. Later was Pardon and Parole Clerk under Governor Stubbs. Was appointed by Governor Stubbs to be Superintendent of the State Reforma- tory at Hutchinson in 1910, serving three yearse In 1921 was appointed Warden of the State Penitentiary by Governor Allen.
