Dear Mr. Allen,

I have your favor of December 5, 1941, inviting me

to the Lawrence Rotary Club to give a talk concerning
some of the interests and high lights of the Selec-
tive Service and Induction program.

Inasmuch as this country is at war, I think it would
be improper for me to talk concerning this work at
the present time.

Therefore, I reluctantly write you that I cannot
accept your very kind invitation.

I have always felt very much at home in a Rotary
Club having been a member, officer, and director of
the St. Louis club as well as a member and president
of the Pittsburg, Kansas club.
