Dick will graduate from Northeast High Sehool, Kansas
City, in June. He would like to enter Kansas University July
first. lf satisfactory to you, he will arrive in Lawrence
between 9 and 10 A.M., Friday, April 14th. If that will not be
satisfactory, kindly advise me or write directly to Dick. Do
you wish to give any specific instructions as to where he should
first report when he reaches the campus?

For your information, Dick's father is an Osteopathic
physician at the above address. He paid his own way while he
studied Vsteopathy. During that period, he was an employee at
the Post Office in Kansas Yity; supported his family and accumu-
lated some real estate, including his home. After he graduated,
he continued with his Post Uffice position and built up practice
among Post Yffice employees and their families that paid as much
as his salary. Sut that did not satisfy him. He asked for a
"leave of absence” so that he could give himself exclusively to
his profession. He forfeited his salary and the practice among
Post Yffice employees. He has now increased his suburban practice
enough so that he will —— his Pest Office position when his
leave of absence expires. is other son is preparing for the
practice of Osteopathy. Dick seems to have other plans. His
parents are inclined to let him act upon his own judgment. 1
believe you will find the boy somewhat reticent about his athletic
record. He would not now have a Press record if his mother had
not kept it up. Il asked him if he was going to take it to Law-
rence with him. His reply was "I wouldn't think of it". It may
not be important to you. If it is important, you may have to ask
for it.

Dr. Soper could help the boy with some of his expense, but
the boy very strongly inclines toward self-sufficiency. The rela-
tionship between the parents and their children is sensible, help-
ful, and co-operative.
