August 28, 1944, Mr. LeW Bellew, Higgins Aircraft, Inc., P. O. Box 32, New Yrleans 6, La, Dear Mr. Ballew: I have just returned from coaching schools for the Iowa and the Kansas high school athletic associations, and find your letter of the Sth instant on my desk. I desply appreciate your courtesy in writing me, giving me the information on your 18 year old 4F chap who is affected with asthma. We do not have any scholarships, but we have work available for boys who want to work. The way I put it, his work is commensurate with the individual's desire and ability. ‘Doubtless you know that we do not have any electric clock winding jobs or any scholarships. But if a boy really wants te go to school we provide an opporamity and a job for him, but of course he has to work like anyone else. We have a fine Engineering School here and I am sure that he would obtain very excellent training. His drafting alone would provide remmer- ation of a higher order than common labor, and I could obtain the work for him without any difficulty if he has this added talent. : We are sending you a catalog of the Engineering School which you can give to the boy. If he sees fit to come to K.U. we will be very glad to help in any way possible. Very sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, PCA :AH Varsity Basketball Coach.
