I would like to talk with you and Otto on the proposition of his not going fraternity right away. Also, if he does not want to go out for football I believe I can arrange it so he can make his expenses more easily than if he goes out for both football and basketball. Many of the football men are not able to go out for other sports on account of the higher specialized sport taking so much time and since basketball is similar to this as a time-taker, I believe that I have an arrangement whereby Otto can make it. Of course, if Vic Hurt would take him, I would be glad for that arrangement to happen. But, I do not want Vie to think that I'm asking him to take some of my men on his football load. You can rest assured that I will see Otto through. I will arrange for his board and room and his work. But of course if he goes fraternity then they will expect him to work and also to pay fraternity dues besides board and room. When this is all figured up, the boy doesn't have time — enough to work. If he sticks to one sport and doesn't go fraternity his first year, I'm sure that we can arrange it. And then after he is located if some fraternity wants to take him and give him a job and they will | permit him to carry his other work, then well and good. My plan is to take Otto under my wing, guide him and advise with him just as I would one of my own youngsters. If that arrange- ment can be made, I'm very sure that he will be happy here and I will see that he gets a full college life with none of the dissappointments that a boy has when he comes unguided and sometimes uncared for. | I hope you can come up, Ed, because you, Otto and I can discuss matters which will be for Otto's good and Otto will have confidence that these things will be done, especially if you're able to accompany him. ‘With all good wishes, I an, Sincerely yours, Director of Fhysical Education and Recreation-Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
