EUS i awe Dear Doe - We knew of the boy Cochrane and Vic has gone out in that section of the country this week. He plans to see the boy on this trip. G. Henry 1031 GRAND AVE., KANSAS CITY, MO. — PHONE VICTOR 6710 GEORGE ANDREWS Kanopolis, Ks. Mr. Forrest Allen Lawrence, Ks. Dear Mr. Allen: In the early twenties, when I was a student at K.U., we were having a rally in the new stadium on the evening before a home coming football game. You gave a fine talk and during your talk you quoted a Whitney, I think, The quotation ended something like this, "Whether Ye win, or whether ye lose; pray God Ye be a man.” I have to make a talk to some young people the last of next week and think that I could use the whole quotation to an advantage. If you could recall the author and the quotation, and mail to me in the inclosed envelope, I would thank you very much. I have a cousin, Bill Cochrane, who graduates from Salina High School this spring. If he has not been called to your attention as possible timer fora K.U. athlete, I would suggest you inquire about his performance in high school. I realize that a high school record does not promise us that the college performance will be successful, but I do think that his ability with a couple of years of training will make him as good as the average football or basketball player. If you are interested in him I will be glad to use my in- fluence to get him to attend K.U. , Trusting that I may get this eee from you, I want to thank you in advance. Allen, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansase Dear Mr. Allen: I have your letter of April 23rd, which I have delayed answering until I could acquire a little more definite information. I do not believe there is any chance of getting either Covert or Miller to attend the University. Both have had offers which we simply can not meet. I am not sure about Bob Kent. He might make the football team, but I doubt if he is fast enough to make your basketball team. Harold Beal, Captain of this year's basketball team, has been up to see me. He is very much interested in the University, and would like to know what kind of a job he could get. If you have anything available for hin, I shall be glad to have you advise me, but frankly, I doubt if he could make your team. Yours very truly, 3 *. I do not anticipate Sotutue a fraturnity my first year. Of course I would like to join, if financiel conditions would permit; however I would gladly sacrifice this if it meant my staying in college.
