Dear Dr. Allen:

This will acknowledge receipt of your letter
of June 2, regarding Carl Herring and the
enclosed copy of a letter which you had
written to Carl. I called Carl the day I re-
ceived your letter and suggested that he
either return to Lawrence or write to Hovey
Hanna regarding work. Carl tells me that he
wrote Mr. Hanna, but to date has not had any
reply.

I surely want to thank you for and appreciate
the interest you are taking in Carl.. I sin-
cerely believe that he will not be a disap-
pointment to any of us. He is a fine, clean
young man and will prove worthy of any op-
portunities given him to help himself.
