May 11, 1939 Dr. F. Ce Alien Director of Athletics University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Sir: I am writing this as a letter of inquiry to find out if there would be any possibility of my securing a position which would enable me to attend the University of Kansas next winter. For your information I am graduating from the Joplin Senior High School this week. My main purpose in addressing this letter to you is because of my interest in athletics. During my three years in high school I have been a member of the basketball squad and track squad. I was a member of the team this year which won the state championship. We also won several other major basket- ball tournaments this winter. I am most anxious to continue my basketball career and because of the fine reputation of the University of Kansas basketball teams, and because of your excel- lent reputation as a basketball coach, I would welcome any oppor- tunity which I might have to attend school at the University of Kansas. I was captain of the track team this year, my events being in the dashes. Scholastically I have ranked very well here in the high school and participated in various extra-curricular activities in our school. May I say at this time, Dr. Allen, that I sincerely would appreciate anything you coulda do in helping me to get a college education and to be able to come to the University of Kansas and play basketball under your guidance. May I hear from you at your earliest convenience? Very, truly yours, hr Ok Pinata te Don R. Hancock Don R. Hancock 1810 Mofrett Joplin, Missouri
