ES BUSINESS SECRETARY Joplin, Missouri May 25, 1939 Bite Mr. Forrest ©, Allen, Basket-ball Coach, Kansas University. Dear Mr, Allen, The purpose of this letter is to introduce myself, and to make known my interest in attending your school. I am Chatles Green, a graduate of Joplin High School this past month, and have tried to be as active as possible as far as athleties go in the schools program, I am planning to enter some school this next year, and I have not as yet decided where it will be, and I am deeply interested in your school for it is rated verf highly. 1 have lettered for four years in high school basket-ball and two years in track and one in football. I Was fortunate enough to play as a regular on the Joplin High state champions basketball tham this year, and was lucky enough to land a berth on the all-state team at a guari. ly father is a Methodist minister, and he at present lives in Niangua, Missouri, and as you know a minister does not have the best of financial support, and 1 am wondering if I attended your school that I could find some sort of work or financial aid, I am sure that my parents can not see my way clear to bear my expenses in a University. The past year and at the present, I have been employed at the Y. M. C. A. here in Joplin to earn my room, and have tried to work elsewhere to bear my expenses. At present I am hunting employment for the summer vacation. I feel sure that I can attend the Junior College here in Joplin, or some of the Colleges here in the state, or even the University of Missouri, but I feel that if I advance to the degree of efficiency that I wish to attain in Basket-ball, that I could find it in your school.
