Topeka, Aug. 19,1938 Dr.Forrest C,Alley, University of Kansas Lawrence, Saensas. Dear Dr.Allen: I know this review is a flop, but I have searched the files for reasonably good copy on the season, and haven't found mech worth writing about.I know the Kansas conference had a good season, even race, etc., but I have forgotten all of it.In fact I don't watch the race as closely as I did when Washburn played in the circuit, put st4ll I think I could have done better had 1 been told of it in Marche Of course I realize you can't know just what you want in the middle of the summer by March, but really, this is a tough assignment ~ after the stuff gets cold. : = _I've been perfectly frank and honest with you about it, and am ashamed to be so no good spd gc Bete in replying, but you caught me right in the middle of ali this summer stuff. In addition to my work on the paper I'm managing the American Legion Junior baseball team sponsored by the Lions club, of which I am @ member, and then, too, this town has gone nuts on softball, and I've been snowed under with overseeing it.Incidentally, Don H.Pierce, who will be on the KU versity grid squad this year, has been helping me with softball and doing a great job.I went to Bartlesville for the Regional American Legion junior baseball tournament, end have done several other thingse On top of that I've been trying to get more rest this summer,.1I went to Mayo's at Rochester, Minn., in April. They gave me explicit direc- tions to slow down a bit, get more rest and gain back my weight. I feel the trip up there was worth thousands to my health. I'm feeling better, have gained 12 pounds since they treated and advised me, and life really seems more livable than it has for some years. You may not be able to use this stuff at all.But it just seems I can't do any better right now. Again I apologize and really hope I can do better next time. Please excuse the stationery, as I : am hurrying thru this to get some copy handied for Saturdey paper. Would like to have you drop in for a visit when you come to Topeka. You know, I still consider you a fine friend of mine, end like you, even tho there were groups trying to crucify you. , | With kindest personal regards, I am, Sincerely, Carlos E.Hobbs Sports Editor
