Allen Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Sirs I would like very much to attend college next fall. Would it be possible that I might be considered as new material for your basket- ball team next winter? Perhaps the only things I can tell you now are that I played basketball the three years I spent in high school and, during that time I was chosen for a forward berth on the all Southern Kansas League team. It shall be necessary for me to finance most my expenses and I am eager to make plans for the coming school term. I shall be very glad to send you the name of the coaches with whom IT have worked. Thanking you for your time and hoping to hear from you at your ear- list convenience I remain Yours truly, Kay wwe 8. Dr. B. &. Alien, Director, Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: My face is growing redder every moment. I had your book lying on my desk ready to autograph it. As a matter of fact I was considering what I should write in the book. Carelessly I laid the book down on top of material which was to be mailed. Mrs. Bale, my secretary, of course assumed that this book was to be returned to you and that is the reason why you have the book but no autograph. Will you please send it back immediately and I will guarantee to try to erase my gradually growing reputation of absentmindedness. With best wishes, I am Very sincerely yours, J -Bunn De Men P.S. Oy SERNA Cone | iy July 18, 1939 Dr. Phog Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Phog: Referring to our conversation at the National Basketball Tournament in Denver last winter, regarding the possibility of my getting to call some games for you this winter. I realize it is awfully early to be thinking of basket- ball, but on the other hand I didn't want you to forget that I was still mighty interested in breaking into the Big Six Conference as an orficial. I certainly will appreciate anything you can do for me. I saw Ebling the other day for the first time in about two months, as he has been in Illinois, and as usual we got into an argument over our ball games of '34 and '35. It seems that he has the edge over me as you won most of those contests. Fred Pralle has his nose to the grindstone and seemingly enjoys his work. He and Billi Martin, who is now working for Phillips, get into it over some of their games every once in a while. I hope they get along playing together as well as Ray and I did.
