HALL, VANCE- forward- 20 -junior in college of liberal arts and sciences; home, Downs; graduate of Downs high school, 1939; coach- ed by Paul Starbuck and Cade Suran. Won a freshman numeral in 1940. Lettered last year at forward. Averaged only 3.6 points a game during the season, but nevertheless was high scorer among the Jayhawk cagers who are back in action this winter. A fine shot, he averaged around 17 points a game his senior year in high school. HUNTER, T.P.- forward or guard- 24 -senior in school of education; home- Centralia, Ill.; graduate of Central high school in Oklahoma City, 1937; coached by Clarence Breithaput. A letterman the past two years. Won several games for the Jayhawks last season with his work on rebounds. Very effective around the basket. The lanky senior developed into a good defensive man last winter and saw 4 good deal of service at guard, as well as working at forward. The easy going Oklahoman is one of the most popular men on the campus. JOHNSON, ROBERT- guard- 21 -senior in school of education; home, Kansas City, Kan.; graduate of Shawnee Mission high school at Merriam, 1938; played under Coach Harold Reade. Freshman numeral winner in 1939. Played forward as a sophomore, lettering that year. Was shifted to guard last season. Is fast and has a lot of drive. Works hard and is a fine ball hustler. Can play center also, KISSELL, MAX- forward- 19 -sophomore in college of liberal arts and sciences; home, Portis; graduate of Portis high school, 1940; coached by Max Kurman. A sensation at this small Class B high school, averaging 203 points a game as a senior. Did not make the first freshman five last year, but is looking much better this winter. His all-around game is considerably improved. An excell- ent two hand shot. Also very accurate on free throws. MILLER, RALPH- forward- 22 -senior in school of education; home- Chan-~ ute; graduate of Chanute high school, 1937; played under Coaches Dale Skelton and Tony Lockyear. One of the two greatest Kansas high school basketball players of all time, the other being "Red" DeBernardi. Averaged 19.7 points a game during his three years of high school basketball, playing against the best teams in the state. This winter will be the first season of college basketball he has played without physical handicaps. Played with a "bad" knee as a sophomore and junior. Laid out last year to strengthen the joint and it now appears to be healed. Second high scorer in the Big Six in 1940. Superb at feinting a guard out of position. An excellent shot and a great passer. Quarterback in football. SOLLENBERGER, MARVIN- guard- 21 -junior in school of engineering; home- Hutchinson; graduate of Hutchinson high school, 1938; played under Coach "Chop" Cairns, Played a year of basketball at Hutchinson Junior College, before coming to K.U. Won a starting berth as a Jayhawk sophomore last year and is the only regular returning from last season's team. His defensive play is the best feature of his game and he also is a fine rebound man. Wears glasses on the court. Suffered a recurrence of an old high school knee injury recently and will have that to worry about this winter.
