Lewandowski University of Oklahoma University of Nebraska Norman, Okla Lincoln, Nebr. George Edwards University of Missouri Gentlemen: The following matters were agreed upon in our recent meeting in Kansas City: (1) Iwo seats are to be reserved for basketball scouting. The home coach is to be notified in advance if scouting seats are wanted. (2) The foblowing basketballs are to be used: Kansas State - George Reach = molded; Missouri - Riddell - molded; Nebraska - Rawlings and Spauld- ing = molded; Oklahoma = Rawlings Last-Bilt; Iowa State = Rawlings - molded; Kansas —- Spaulding - laceless stitched (it was also agreed that two good basketballs of the type used by the home team should be available for the visiting team). (3) The starting time of the games: Kansas State = 7:30; Missouri ~ 8:00; Nebraska - 8:00; Iowa State - 7:15.- During the week 7:30 Friday or Saturday; Kansas =~ 7:30. (4) It was felt by the coaches that $25.00 was an appropriate sum to give to the Naismith Fund if we care to take part in this undertaking. (5) It was decided that we would have a table with a sign marked "Officials? which was to designate the official scoring and timing table. (6) Will you kindly submit to me your ideas on how we should go about making out our schedules in the future. I will compile these suggestions and send them on to you. RULES INTERPRETATION AND CONDUCT OF THE GAME: (1) In an effort to reduce booing we are to encourage our players to raise their arms if there is an outburst of booing. (2) When a player is fouled he is to turn his back to the scorer's table so that his number can be clearly seen by the seorer. ‘ December 9, 1941 “2= (3) Coaches are to do everything in their power to stop anything off-color among the players. (4) We are to make every effort to keep spectators out of the of~ ficial dressing rooms both before and after the game. (5) Timers are to be cautioned that the official will clearly designate time-out on all fouls. (Point in question is that in a game where seconds are very important, i.e. late in the game, the timer has been uncertain as to whether or not to stop his clock on the blowing of the whistle as he could not tell if it was a held ball or a foul. Now in the event of a foul the official will turn at once to the timer's bench and give the time-out signal. (6) After a declined free throw the ball is to be thrown in on the side of the outer official. (7) On violation, the player committing the violation shall toss the ball to the nearest official. IOWA STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND MECHANIC ARTS AMES, IOWA DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION December 10, 1941 Dr. F. G. Allen Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Docs. I took the matter up with Veenk relative to competing against Service teams. He said that you are permitted to compete your freshman or your varsity against these Service teams and this does not count as competition against your varsity, or number of games played. How- ever, this does not apply to either police teams or other teams. In other words, it is a gesture on the part of the Big 6 Conference to help in the matter of morale among the Service teams.
