Allen Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Docs Congratulations on your splendid victory over Louie. I know it was a tough one for him to lose, but from all accounts of the game your boys appeared to be the aggressors in the stretch and after all that is what counts. In view of the fact that Eddie Hogue is the first alternate for our game in Lawrence March 7, I think we had better stick to these assignments so long as it is possible . At the time I called you re=- garding a replacement for Hyatt in our game at Norman, I had written 4 Mr. Hogue, our first alternate, and he was unable to work this game because of a schedule conflict. Moe Pressly was the second alternate, and he resides in Omaha, Nebraska. When we get that far down the list of alternates very little thought or time is given as to their ability, because previous to this year we had very few changes in our original assignments. Because of Pressly's locality and the cost of bringing him here to Norman, I called you long distance to see if we could agree on a official that was located closer to Norman and save us both a little mone ye I think it is wise that in our game in Lawrence, March 7, that we stick to our original agreement on alternates to fill #32 in this gap. left by Hyatt. We have as the first alternate Hogue, Pressly and Larson in that order. Of course if they can not work, the next one down the line is agreeable with me. I will be in Lawrence tonight to see your Missouri game at which time we can settle this matter. I would also appreciate a scout ticket for this game. Allen Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dre Allen: I have just received your letter concerning Eddie Hogue and I am sorry that I did not get to see you at Kansas State the other night. I got caught in the mob and went on dowm stairs to talk to Quigley and thought possibly you would come down to the dress= ing room. I tried my best to make it to your Missouri game but the snow and ice caught me at Florence where I was forced to spend the night. After the Kansas State game I took the train on up to Ames and got to see his well balanced club in action for the first time. Missouri made a game of it all the way mostly through the jump and long shot variety, and after seeing both clubs I am convinced that I am going to be in for a lot of headaches when I play either of them. Congratulations on your victory last night and even though I was not there I had a mental picture of the way they must have had them stacked in to beat"“old Phog' and to convince the legislators that they are sadly in need of a larger playing field. It is a shame they did not have these politicians out to see our game for I assure you they all went home happy. Let me hear from you as soon as you get a confirmation from a ued SUCCESS. Dear Dr, Allen: Another basketball season will be with us before we know it, but it seems only yesterday that you stretched me out on the floor of your room in Hotel Howard, at Fayette, Mo., and gave my sacroilliac the works, You were the young coach of the Warrensburg Normals, and I a brash high school basketball player down in the back. Now you are starting another year of coaching and I my twentieth year of officiating.
