We are working up a fine stunt for Jan- uary Slst in which everyone connected with the show will be paid in Defense Bonds or Stamps. As a matter of fact, we are accepting stamps for General Admission tickets which sell for Fifty-Five Cents ($ .55) in lieu of cash. I am very hopeful that you will obtain the consent of your school authorities to go along with this suggestion. ae Graduate Manager AM:GB of Athletics : on Fe\ “ MORSEj.cecccosssosssssen Bus. Mgr. Bay 16th, 1941 Mr. Arthur Morse 10 South LaSalle Street Chicago, Illinois Dear Arthur: I acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 9th instant. I imagine that you thought I was a little "bingy" that way I wrote my last letter to you, but I tell you definitely that I was very sober but much played for time. Your telegram asked for the 24th or Slst. Of course we could not play on the 24th, because we play Kansas State here on that date. But, I do not know where we got the idea of talking about the 28th. However, we will play you on the 3lst of January, in Chicago. Loyola is entire agreeable to have us as their opponents. We have had two good games and I see no reason why we should not con- tinue close and interesting competition. I presume that the same financial arrangerzents will be obtained this year. Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I thank you for your letter of May 7th. You owme no apology, as you have in the past been most prompt and court- eous in your responses to our communication. In your last paragraph of yourletter you refer to the 28th, I presume you are referring to the 28th of January. We do not play on the 28th, but we do play on the Slst, and I would be only too happy to extend the invitation for that date. I believe that this is immediately after your examin- ation period and as it is on a weekend I am hopeful that you might be able to make that date. On this Double Header you would play Loyola, or if you prefer, I imagine that arrangements can be made for you to play De Paul. I suggest Loyola only because the rivalry created by the last two seasons is an interesting one and possibly should be maintained. I would appreciate hearing from you at your earliest convenience. May 7th, 1941 Mr. Arthur Morse 10 S LaSalle Street Chicago, Illinois Dear Mr. Morse: I owe you an apology for not replying to your letter of April 16th. My secretary wrote you on April 26th, stating that your communication would be brought to my attention. It was. But I have been coaching baseball this spring and before Basketball Season was over, I had accepted a lot of speaking dates in the Grape Fruit and Lettuce league. I do not believe that I have ever been busier with spring baseball, which I did not know I was going to take until just at the close of basketball season. In addition to this, I'm teaching two classes in the University, and have a large number of commencement addresses as well as serving on a great many faculty committees. This is not a good alibi, Arthur, but it's the best one I have. I'm sending you our Big Six Conference Schedule.for 1942. This shows you that we have a game scheduled with ties State ‘at Lawrence on that date. In your letter you state January 17th, and we play Nebraska on that date. Regarding the 28th, that date is the end of our first semester examinations. I might get caught with a number of my men taking examinations on that day, and then again, it might be possible for us to play. Whom have you in mind for the double-header? I will promise'to answer your next communication more promptly. With kindest regards, 1 am, Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation Varsity Basketball and Baseball Voach.
