July 31, 1941. Ur. Arthur Morse, 10 Soe LaSalle 8t., Chicago, Illinois. My dear Arthur: You may have the DePaul athletic manager make out contracts and send them to us». We have no objections to playing DePaul in- stead of Loyola. . I em sending e@ couple of photographs that I trust will be satisfactory. They are really glosses instead of photographs, but I trust they will doe Answering your question regarding the tournament in Merch, I beg to state that our conference will not permit us to enter eny tournaments of such natures In fact, they have had a very stringent rule up until this past May when, I wnderstand, they are permitting our teams to play in tournaments that are managed by one of the college teams that play in the tournament. This sent- ence may sound rather ambiguous to you, but three years ago we played in a tournament sponsored by Washburn College, of Topeka, Keansase Washburn wes in the tournament, but the conference voted against ow doing this thing because they claimed that as long as we were playing Weshburn in Weashburn's tournament it was all right. But if we played the New Mexice School of Mines in ‘ashburn's tournament that was against the rule. : However, they rescinded this action in Mey and now their rescinded action wuld permit such a tournament as you suggest but not in March. They would rule that that was post-season, even though it might come within the law. And too, Arthur, we are limited to eighteen games a season and we will have played our eighteen games, so any over that would not be permitted. The only deal that I think would be a big affair wuld be ea Christmas tournament in Chicago, say a year from now, I told our conference if we were wise we would have e Big Six Tournament at Christmas in the new Kansas City Itmicipal Auditorium. We would pack that auditorium every night, but the other coaches think I am pulling a fast one on them and they are afraid a rabbit will jump out of the hat.
