UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS HEALTH SERVICE LAWRENCE, KANSAS Januery 18, 1941 Dr. F. C. Allen Director of Physical Education and Recreation Varsity Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen, This will acknowledge your letter of January 14, 1941, and the enclosure of a copy of your letter to the Chancellor, in which you affirm your desire to cooperate with the Health Service. I had not seen the wording of the motion passed by the Board of the Physical Education Corporation until you brought me the copy a few days ago. When I was asked if we would provide medical care and examinations for athletes in University competition I was told we were to take care of all groups. You can readily appreciate my position in being unwilling to accept responsibility for the health of the boys unless they come to us as soon as they meed medical attention, and before they become"hospital patients". By early and adequate care the need for hospitalization with the resulting loss of time from classes and from competition can be reduced or avoided. We are both interested in good health for our students, and I am sure we can work harmoniously toward that objective. a re he Caicos Me De iikeeter, Health Service RIC:s ec to Chancellor Malott
