October 25, 1937. lip, Lb, E, Menze Basketball Coach, Towa State College, Ames, lowa, — Dear Louie: “hank you for your good letter of the. Zist instant concerning the program, am very happy to have your suggestion, I believe at the last meeting of the Big Six coaches, Louie, you coaches selected a chairman and secretary to carry on the Big Six interpretations, did you not? I would like to suggest that the same officials continue in charge of the Big Six meeting, I was then Director of Athletics at Kansas, and the feeling was that my time was divided between the directors and coaches meetings, anc for that reason I believe thet you people selected your personnel, If you will give me the names of those individuals I will write them and suggest the same be con- tinued through this meeting. Now here is my dilemaa regarding the open meeting, I have always viewe@ltit as a meeting for many beginners, both officials and coaches, and unless we go over the wholes field of interpretations we are apt to overlook some of the uninitiated, I agree with you that it is somewhat tiresome and painful to 80 over this stuff that we have known for 20 years or more, But I am wondering if we are. fulfilling the mission of an interpre= tations meeting when we fail to take in some points whieh we consider trivial, 4s we see the type of officiating that we do sco from week to week should not we go over some very fundamental rules interpretations to help fellows that spend less tims on them than wo do? I, for one, certainly do agree thet your suggestion is well taken in that it will stimulate me to greater endeavor in getting the tiresome — aA
