October 24, 1942. Lieut. Ted J. O'Sullivan, Special Services Officer, -Beception Center No. 1773, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Thank you for your good letter of the 2ist instant. Camp Crowder is anxious to play us, and the only way wa ean play both teams, Fort Leavenworth and Camp Crowder, in Kansas City is for the Jayhawkers to play both teams the same night. If we | brought in another team that wouldn't suit Cemp Crowder. fhe uniqueness of having Kansas pley both teams the same night will add to the attraction. Our team will be large enough that we can shift the boys back and forth. I think this will be our only chance to play ths soldiers in Kansas City, and I know the soldiers like to be in the city on Saturday night - or do they, Ted? : I certainly approve of your plan to give your boys an opportunity to get into Officers’ Candidate Sehool as soon as possible. Of course we have a lot of games on our schedule, end we can't pay you much when you play over here. I presume that you will have your own transportation. Doceniber Ist will suit us fine, and this game will perhaps be thrown open to the Navy boys stationed here at the University. These two games, January 16 and December 1, are, of course, subject to approval of Gwinn Henry, the Athletic Director, and the Athletic Board. But I em definitely making this arrange- ment and will let you know as soon as I have their approval. ~Very sincerely yours, : Director of Physical Mducation, PCA:AH Varsity Basketball Coache
