ST. JOSEPH NEWS-PRESS AFTERNOON AND SUNDAY St. NJoseph Gazette MORNING C.M.PALMER, PRESIDENT HENRY D. BRADLEY, PustisHer ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI EDITORIAL ROOMS ARTHUR V. BURROWES, EDITOR Dear rhog; Lieutenant Nugent and yours truly @tduly appreciateive of the chance you are giving the Flyers to play against a name chub on a big court. i am mailing some publicity material on tne individual players to Hlliott amd Nixon. AĆ© to the team it really hasn't a record as aside from St.Benedict's, which beat the Flyers, 45 to 35, all it has played has been independent clubs around st/Joe, There is plenty of material but like alll real service clubs the Flyers are operating under a tremendous handicap as all practide and play is om tie soldiers own time and it is impossible to get them tozet er as some are always in duty, particularly the flying officers, Rosecrans Field is owrated by the Army Air Force Transport Command and is a rapidly expanding aviation base. Its athletic program is jus getting under way uhder the direction of Lieut. thomms Nugent, former coach at Ithaca, N.Y., College, All of his men are subject to transfer at any minute go the present bunch might be in Africa or Australia by Jan.16 leaving him with a brand new bunch on his hands, He knows that the riyers are not in a classwith your club and only hopes to give -you a decent game. I assured him that you weren't the type of coach to try to rub it in and that in playing two games in a night your club wouldn't be at its best, Sincerely Arthur F.Hughes
