Allen Department of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Phog: I have your letter of June 2 and have talked with Jack Gray in regard to the games at lawrence this winter, Fog, Jack says it will be impossible for him to play on December 8 and 9, He assists with football and quite a few of the basketball players are football players and he feels that he will not be ready at that time, He can not play on December 16 or 17, Then, Christmas week he takes @ trip East playing at Madison Square Garden in New York and at Convention Hall in Philadelphia, Returning home, he has conference games the first week in January, He suggests January 15 and 16 as he plays the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville on the 12th and 13th and could come to Lawrence on > this same trip. Now, Phog, if you and Jack are unable to get together this winter, I suggest you send me some dates on which you could play in 1940 and I will get it worked out for you. I assume that it doesn't matter with you whether we play this year or next year, and since Jack had an opportunity to go East this year why it might be more convenient to give you the return games next season. I do not want you to be embarrassed and I think if you are unable to get together in 1939, we should begin immediately to work out definite dates for 1940, We are planning to be at Estes Park during the month of July. I remember with so much pleasure our summer there a few years ago. With sincere regards and best wishes, I am Yours very cordially ector of Athletics DXB: AA June 2, 1959». You can see that unless we play you before the Christmas holi- days begin it will be rather difficult to get our two games ine clone the games at en early date. "We sould play you any time in December, but I an afraid that if we wait wmtil after the of school we will have a difficult time in arranging dates. I was rather wider the impression thet our gemes with you would be played before Christms, because that was the general understanding, was it not? I wish you would write me and give me some idea of the dates that you would like to have heres Southern Methodist desires to come about the 15th or 16th of December. I heave passed up the making of a trip this year due to the fact that I have four games scheduled with Texas and Southern Methodist, and having the contract with you people limited us in our allowable non=conference games. For that reason I would very much appreciate your writing me at your earliest convenience regarding the dates you desiree t eden ‘yen ak 1 Genk Halt Aad betetngh wt tw Welton Square Garden games, but I see no reason why we should not play you before you piey in the Gardea, as the wiole month of December is open so far as we are concerned. Mr. Forrest C, Allen, Basketball Coach The University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Mr. Allen: a We have an opportunity to be on Ned Irish's basketball program at Madison Square Garden this year, sometime during the Christmas holidays. Since Texas has never had the opportunity to play in New York before, I think it would be a good thing for the school and also a fine trip for our boys if we accept this invitation. A definite arrangement with Mr. Irish has not been com- pleted because we are to be on a program with Oklahoma. We would like very much to play you on our return home from New York. I certainly hope this will be satisfac- tory with you and can be arranged. Hoping to hear from you soon, I am, Yours singerely Yasketball Coach April 26, 1939.
