"Except for one guard, Iba could start the same team Tuesday night that finished last year's campaign. Forwards Harvey Slade, senior, and Gene Smelser, junior; Center Jess Penick, senior and Guard Howard Doyle, senior, are all back this year. "“owever, Iba plans to use Renick, picked as a forward on the Alle~ Missouri Valley conference team of 1939, at either a forward or guard berth. Slade, too, may be shifted to a guard position. “o¢her returning lettermen are: Forwards Art Johnson, senior; and Harvey Pate, junior; Center Howard Francis, junior; and Guard dack Hopkins, junior . "Pour six-foot, five-ineh centers are paced by Vernon Sehwertfeger, a junior college transfer from Dodge City, Kansas. Three sophomore pivot men are Merb Kirchmeyer, Cushing; Eugene Bell, Jay; and Nerschel Gray, Chickasha.s “Bidding hard for a forward position are four cracker jack sophomores, Leds Eggleston, J.T. Newman, Charles Scheffel and Roy Gardner. Eggleston is a former all-Oklahoma high school forward who averaged 21 points a game for his four years at Walters, Oklahoma, Newman counter 622 points for games in his senior year at Williams high of Quaneh, Texas.
